Thea Kinner is a Portland, Oregon based mixed media artist who graduated from Oregon College of Art and Craft with a BFA. Her concentration was in metals, but works with a wide range of materials such as: glass, resin, wood, acrylic, silicone, foam, digital media and 3D prints, and whatever else she can find. Kinner utilizes and is heavily inspired by found objects and word play. She deconstructs and recreates found objects, analogies, lyrics, poems and cliches to create an abstracted interpretation that create new and personal meanings. Her work investigates how the dark side of human nature intersects with imagination. Working with domestic found objects allows her work to beĀ grounded in familiar false feminine realities. She works with found objects and often combines two dimensional and three dimensional work. She uses repetition and spontaneity to illustrate different states of being. Her work has been described as eery, vulnerable, recognizable and grotesque, with a bit of whimsy.
